As I write this I'm in Spain where the single went to number 15 in the charts. Spain's the only other country outside the UK that we've done a secret gig. Mick came up with the idea while me and him were on a radio tour for Gravity. It was a crazy pipe dream to take a gang of fans out to a remote island on a big speedboat. Amazingly we managed to blag it for free. We made a film about the whole experience which should be available once we've had a chance to edit it together.
It was a lot of fun but I think the secret tour we did in september was the most fun I've ever had with Embrace. The gig we did in Leeds where the crowd filled in around us as we arrived in the back of a nine tonne army truck was fucking amazing. Again we made a short film of the whole experience and we are making this along with a trailer for what has now become known as SG SUNSEEKERS available free with the next batch of albums. If you've already got the album we're going to make the footage available free as a christmas present.
Last week we were in the Big Brother house. The trouble with doing a secret gig in a place a crazy as that is how do you follow it... well WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
Also the response we've had to the D12 and Eminem cover we did has been incredible. We were originally going to do a different song as a cover, but Jo Whiley told us two days before going on that someone else had already done the song we'd chosen. This gave us only a few hours to work out what to do. When I suggested doing "How Come" the band were all a bit scared of the idea. In fact as we were due to go on air Richard was visibly shaking. It sounded awful at soundcheck but for some reason I'll never understand the nerves helped us on the day. This will now be one of the extra tracks on the new single which is Ashes.
Speaking of which we're all really proud of what you've achieved with the† G*A*T*N*O campaign... the sandwich boards... the busking... the t-shirts... the emailing and telephoning and voting seems to be getting more and more fervent as we get nearer to release. I keep saying it I know but we really appreciate everything you do for us.
You do your best work and you hope that people will like what you do.
For the first time in my life with America looming and the album going platinum amazingly outselling the other 3 put together and a sold out tour... it finally feels like this could be our time.
See you on the tour.
Love Danny
