What a year it's been. It's not just the success we've had... it seems like things have really changed within the band. It feels like we are closer now than ever. The ups and downs of the last few years have made us stronger and more supportive of each other.
To say we didn't expect it would be a bit of an understatement. When our manager rang up to ask if we were free to play at the V Festival it made me really nervous. We hadn't done a proper gig in England for years. As soon as we got there all the other bands on the bill kept coming up to us and wishing us well and saying it was good to have us back. And a lot of young bands came up to us and said we were an inspiration to them. This was a bit surreal and had definitely never happened before.
I remember me and Mick setting up in the Virgin Radio tent to do an accoustic session. I was shaking like a leaf. The room was full of other bands and DJ's and journalists and industry types. No one seemed to be paying any attention... I could hardly hear myself above the chinking of glasses and merriment. Then the sound guy turned the PA on and everyone fell silent and came and sat right in front of us. I sang "Gravity" and you could hear a pin drop. Then the applause when I finished totally took me by surprise. I think it must have been obvious I wasn't expecting the reaction we got because my suprised face made the crowd cheer even more. Then we did a version of Come Back To What You Know and everyone sang along.
It was at that moment I started to realise that things were going to get better for us. Now it seemes like everyday things have just got better and better. There seems to be so much good will towards us. I know I've said this before but it really feels like everyone wants us to win again and it's ace.
We've just shot the video for "Looking As You Are" which feels like it could be our best yet. We've also made a few improvements to the single version. We're also putting the final touches to the artwork which will have all you lot on the front... or as many of you as we could fit across the 3 formats anyway.
The secret gigs were a lot of fun... I've still got that fake snow in my hair. I've just read through some of your comments on the messageboard. Knowing how much you lot enjoy it makes all the work and preparation that goes into them feel worthwhile... So expect news on SG#18 soon.
The most exciting thing about all this is that it feels like it's just the beginning. We're going back into the studio in January to begin work on LP5. We've got so many ideas and so much energy it feels like a good time to get some of it down on tape. We may even have a new album ready to go by the end of next year. If you'd have asked me about going in to the studio 3 months ago I would have run away... but now I can't wait. One thing is certain though - LP5 wont be finished until it's better than "Out Of Nothing".
On behalf of myself and the band I'd like to wish you all a Merry Merry Christmas...
Love
Danny
