Can we just say that the band are all totally delighted with our chart result on Sunday. I found out earlier as they pre-recorded the interview with Scott Mills at about 1pm. Everyone else wanted to wait to hear the proper rundown. The week had been a real nail-biter - Steve didn't sleep all night because we'd been number one all week and every morning the record company would phone and say "you're still number one but Neyo's catching you".
It's fucking ace that a bunch of northerners who were on the dole two years ago almost got to number one. It's the kind of thing you can tell your grand children. If you're a fan of the band whether you've been one since the start or just got into us because of Nature's Law today is a day to celebrate. I have to say that it hasn't sunk in for me this last few weeks has gone by in a bit of a whirlwind.
We've been busy and its about time I told you what we've been up to. Yes I can confirm we have been asked to write the official England World Cup song. It's a massive challenge trying to write the official song for the World Cup and when we were asked my Dad put it best, he said, "Do you think you're up to it? If you do - do it, if you don't - don't."
Well hopefully we are. We think we’ve got a really great song in "World At Your Feet" and with luck it'll capture the nation's mood as well as New Order's World In Motion did. It's a real honour to be asked and I hope we can deliver.
Whenever England do well in a major tournament it makes you feel really proud. I remember the last time England were on a roll it seemed like every other house had a Union Jack hanging outside even people not normally bothered about football were inspired by the team doing so well.
We might not win it, we didn't win it last time but it was one hell of a lot of fun watching them try.
I think we've got the song, I can't wait to get in to the studio and get it recorded... hope you like it!
