JUNE 2004

DANNY: EMBRACE ARE BACK!!!

Monday 12th July 2004

I've just been on the messageboard and read everyones reaction to our new single. I'm really pleased that the vast majority of you seem to really like it. I have to say that we were initially a bit unsure at the idea of releasing someone elses song first, after having been away for so long and after working so long and hard on the album.

But in the end all the real reasons against doing it were mostly about petty pride. Because the truth is that if me or Richard had written it we would be really pleased with it. The thing I like so much about it is it's simple worded honesty. I've never written a song so unabashedly full of love, I think it's fucking beautiful. The arrangement is a lot simpler than we would usually do but I think the song demands it.

It came together really quickly and easily by our standards. I think that's because we recorded it right at the end of the last session. I think by then we'd had just about every argument it was possible to have over the previous 3 months and by this point we just knew what to do.

The beginning stages of the album were among the hardest times in my life. I had to take medication just to keep my heart beating steady. I wasn't too fazed about this until I found out the dose I was on was twelve times the amount my friends mum takes and she's in her fifties.

No wonder I hardly got any sleep.

But maybe that's a story for another time.

For now starting with Steve Lamacq tonight Embrace are BACK!!!
