World At Your Feet

ABOUT

It was Pa McNamara who sealed it - "If you think you can do it, do it. If you don't, don't." Nothing ventured, nothing gained, so Embrace did it. And how! World At Your Feet had been gestating for a year, lyric-less and unfinished, needing a purpose to help it live, until the World Cup came along and seemed like the perfect purpose. A flush of excitement and clamour of responsibility sealed it, the band returned to the studio quicker then they had ever anticipated, decided to take a simple approach ("just five guys playing rock 'n' roll"), and nailed it. Never mind sixty-thousand people singing along; this is a song so big and infectious that if England do well you can imagine sixty-million joined in chorus. It might not have a Rooney rap, but it stands alongside the likes of World In Motion and Three Lions with ease.

But beyond being a good World Cup song, World At Your Feet is a great Embrace song, from the opening guitar fuzz to the climactic chorus and closing drum roll. The energy and melody of This New Day bursts from World At Your Feet's seams, but there's an added positivity too. It can be done. And as if that wasn't enough, Embrace understand that all the greatest players have fantastic team-mates around them, and have included a clutch of their very finest b-sides to boot.

Everyone's a winner!
